Security operatives attached to the convoy of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi on Friday morning  over powered an armed robbery gang operating along Enugu-Awka Expressway and rescued over 500 stranded commuters.

The armed robbers had laid a siege to the route, five kilometers away from Aniocha village, and had dispossessed many motorists of their belongings, leading to abandonment of scores of vehicles along the road before the convoy arrived  the spot around 10.20am and dislodged the robbery gang following a superior fire exchange.

After dislodging the gang, the convoy then led all the stranded commuters and motorists out of the area.
