Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has congratulated the President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, Mr. Femi Adesina, on his appointment as the new Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of The Sun Group of Newspapers.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, Fayemi described Adesina’s appointment as a reward for his diligence, professionalism, creativity and immense contribution to the journalism profession.
He described Adesina as a thoroughbred professional who has paid his due in journalism practice as a reporter, writer, columnist, editor and administrator.
Fayemi described Adesina’s appointment as well-deserved saying the development is a further proof that his election as NGE President earlier in the year was not a fluke.
The Governor said Adesina’s experience which spans over two decades will come in handy in his new role as the overall boss of The Sun Publishing Limited.
He urged the new appointee to see his new office as an opportunity to offer fresh ideas to reposition The Sun in a bid to maintain its position as a leading media organization not only in Nigeria but in Africa.
The Governor said the new office places enormous responsibilities on Adesina urging him to redouble his efforts in giving his best to the profession which has earned him fame and respect within and outside the country.
Fayemi reinstated the readiness of his administration to continue to partner with credible news organisations like The Sun Newspapers, stressing that government and the media are important partners in the effort to deepen democracy in the country.
“We know that you possess all that is needed to take The Sun Newspaper to the next level, our prayer is that God will give you the wisdom and the enablement to actualise this dream. On behalf of the government and the good people of Ekiti State, I congratulate you and wish you the very best. Congratulations.”
