Architects, Town planners, Contractors, Bricklayers, Carpenters and other artisans that have to do with designing and building houses have been urged to use standard measures and quality materials that will stand the test of time whether such buildings are designed for the rural or urban locations.
Special Adviser, Office of the Deputy Governor, Hon. Tale Oguntoyinbo gave the charge in Iludun-Ekiti , Ilejemeje Local Government Area where he led the state government delegation to visit and sympathize with the people whose houses were affected by the rainstorm which ravaged the entire communities in the local government area.
He explained that the news of the incident got to Governor Kayode Fayemi, who was on official assignment outside the state, late on Friday and directed him to immediately lead the delegation to the communities to express his unhappiness over the incident and sympathize with the victims.
Hon. Oguntoyinbo who thanked God that there was no causality despite the enormity of the disaster prayed for quick recovery for victims who were still taking treatment at the Iye General Hospital, noting that some of the houses affected were badly designed and structurally defective which probably make them susceptible to rain storm attack.
The Special Adviser while assuring the people whose houses were affected that the State government will provide relief and building materials as well as other logistics that will assist them repair their houses through the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, advised those still living in the half-dilapidated houses to vacate them as living in such buildings could be suicidal.
Also speaking, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ilejemeje local Government Area, Prince Adegoroye bamigboye who was part of the team described the havoc wrecked by the storm as devastating and unfortunate.
He called on the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and other philanthropic Nigerians to assist Ekiti government and the victims because the disaster was enormous and may be difficult for the state government alone to provide adequate assistance to the victims without the assistance of the federal government.
Some of the victims, Mrs. Rachael Oluwafemi and Mr. Oluwole Fasanmi who spoke with journalists thanked Governor Kayode Fayemi and the delegation for coming to sympathize with them and appealed to the government not to delay whatever money and building materials it intends to give so they can put their houses in order again soonest.
Owa of Iludun-Ekiti, Oba Joseph Kayode Akinola and the Eleda of Eda Oniyo-Ekiti, Oba Julius Olapio Awolola described the administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi as very responsive to the needs of the citizen and commend him for sending people to sympathize with their people barely a few hours after the disaster.
Oba Kayode Akinola who enumerated some of the benefits Ilejemeje Council had enjoyed from the present government to include road constructions, renovation of schools and health centres and the social security funds for the elderly among others commended him for being focused as evident in the achievement the administration had made in a few years.
