Chairman Sports Council Commends Team Nigeria To ITTF

Three members of Team Nigeria to the just concluded International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) held in Abidjan, the capital city of Ivory Coast have been commended for their outstanding performances at the competition.

The Chairman of Ekiti State Sports Council, Prince Ademola Adetola commended the athletes who are from the state for making the state and the whole country proud.

Prince Adetola who could not hide his joy while welcoming the athletes, said the management would organise a formal presentation of the players to the State Government, adding that they have displayed a laudable feat which must be rewarded.

One of the players, Tosin Oribamise won two gold medals and two trophies in the cadet and junior category with an ITTF hopes
scholarship for a minimum of five years which now qualifies her for special invitation to participate in all ITTF Championship throughout the world.

The other athletes Eniola Blessing and Abayomi Martins won two silver and two bronze medals each.

Commenting on the team’s success, the head coach, Mr. Olubode Ajayi from Ekiti State Sports Council expressed confidence that the state would soon produce world champions in Table Tennis.

Mr. Ajayi solicited more support from government particularly on the need to equip the players with more facilities to facilitate rapid improvement and growth of the game.

In another development, the state owned Fountain FC has begun the 2012/2013 Nigeria National League with an impressive performance after a one-nil (1-0) victory over their counterpart Akwa Starlet of Akwa-Ibom state.

The match was played at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado at the presence of the Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Kayode Olaosebikan.

The Commissioner commended the team and its coaching crew, assuring the readiness of the state government to provide necessary logistics that will boost the performance of the team in their subsequent ties.

Meanwhile, the Fountain FC will engage the Prime FC of Ibadan in an away match by next Saturday March 16, 2013.
