Ekiti Must Remain Polio Free – Fayemi

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has assured that his administration will continue to take necessary steps required to ensure that the state maintains its polio-free status.
Dr. Fayemi gave this assurance in Ado Ekiti during the flag-off ceremony of the second edition of National Immunization Plus Days(NIPDs).

The Governor who stressed the need for stakeholders to ensure one hundred percent immunisation coverage of all the communities in the state expressed regret that the coverage of the past editions of the programmes in the state did not reach the expected target. He appealed to parents to bring out their children for immunization, adding that vaccines are free and safe for them.
Governor Fayemi who spoke through the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Omirin called on all stakeholders in the health sector to support the initiative.

In his address, the State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Sola Fasubaa stated that the State’s health workers have undergone training as monitors and vaccinators for effective eradication of polio and other childhood killer diseases.
Prof. Fasubaa appealed to local government management to provide the necessary logistics to the health workers to ensure that every child is immunized against the wild polio virus.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of Primary Health Care Development Agency, Mrs. Folakemi Falore who noted that the state has not recorded any case of wild polio virus in the last 16 years, said the state government was providing 24 hours immunisation services in all health institution across the state.
She urged parents to complete the immunization schedule of their children.
