Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has congratulated former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, on his 76th birthday.

Governor Fayemi in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, described Obasanjo as a man of history whose life affected Nigeria in an unprecedented manner.

Fayemi urged Obasanjo to use the rest of his life to continue to serve humanity as many young people look up to people like him (Obasanjo) for counsel  and guidance.

He advised Obasanjo to always serve as father to all politicians irrespective of their political affiliations and be in the vanguard of a better electoral process in Nigeria.

Fayemi noted that Obasanjo has spent his entire life serving his father land as a military officer, administrator, public servant, diplomat, politician and statesman.  The Governor added that Obasanjo’s influence has been felt in the areas of governance, agriculture, education, culture, election management and maintenance of global peace.

While admitting that Obasanjo means different things to different people, Fayemi said the former Nigerian leader is never afraid to take any decision he feels is in the overall interest of the people he leads.

Fayemi said Obasanjo’s unrivalled zeal and passion for the unity of Nigeria has gone a long way in keeping the country united despite the challenges it has faced in recent years.

He prayed God to grant Obasanjo good health and long life for more selfless service to Nigeria, Africa and the entire human race.
