Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has said that the robust competition between the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Progress FM and the state owned radio and television; will stimulate improved service delivery, accountability and probity in governance in line with the components of the 8-point Agenda of the state government.
Speaking through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation, Mr. Kola Ajumobi, at the 10th anniversary lecture of Progress FM in Ado-Ekiti, the governor noted that the existence of the radio station in the state has engendered healthy competition geared towards excellence performance.
The state’s helmsman noted that the state has witnessed a paradigm shift over the last two years, adding that the state was the first to domesticate the Freedom of Information Law in 2011 and the first in the SouthWest to pass the Fiscal Responsibilities Bill into law.
He congratulated the management and staff of Progress FM for the successes recorded so far and the careful selection of the anniversary lecture theme: “To Keep Nigeria on: Still a Centenary Task”.
The Governor noted that the state government has embarked on poverty reduction programmes in the state through the Social Security Scheme, the Youth Commercial Agriculture and development (Y-CAD) among others.
He however charged the FRCN to find a lasting solution to the poor reception and loss of signal that usually hamper network news and programmes on the Progress FM.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the programme, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, represented by the PDP Vice Chairman (South West), Engr. Segun Oni noted that communication is key to governance and socio-economic development of the society, saying Progress FM has recorded major landmark in its quick journey into maturity.
The Director General of FRCN, Barr. Nuiely Yusuf, represented by the Director, Lagos Operations, Mr. Ike Okere, noted that the objective of the corporation which is to uplift the people and unite the nation has been adequately projected by progress FM.
