Traders and Market women at Bisi Market have been cautioned against displaying their goods on the roads.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Environment, Dr. Bola Fakunle gave the charge in Ado-Ekiti while addressing the Market women, stall holders and traders at Bisi Market during a monitoring exercise to markets in the state capital.
Dr. Fakunle who was represented by the Director of Environmental Health and Sanitation, Mr. Tunde Balogun condemned the act, adding that displaying goods on the road will affect the free flow of traffic and affect the pace of the on-going road project.
She warned them against dumping refuse on the road and drains, saying anyone caught in the act will be prosecuted.
Noting that Environmental Officials would be frequently visiting the markets to ensure proper sanitation, the Permanent Secretary advised the traders to always keep their stalls clean.
The monitoring team at the market include: Officials of Environmental Health & Sanitation Department, State Environmental Protection Agency and State Waste Management Authority.
In a related development, the Environmental Officers in the Ministry of Housing and Environment have arrested about ten different people that violated the environmental law of the state by dumping refuse in the drains while some were caught passing excreta in the drain.
The Director, Environmental and Sanitation, Mr. Tunde Balogun noted that it was an offence to build a house without a toilet in the state and warned that erring landlords would be made to face the wrath of the law.
