Village Water and Sanitation Committees (WASHCOM) in Ekiti State have been charged to ensure proper maintenance of public boreholes in their domains.
Speaking during the formal handing over of the recently Rehabilitated Hand Pumps and Tools by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Tulsi – Chanrai Foundation to Communities in Ekiti South Senatorial District, the Caretaker Chairman of Ise/Orun Local Government Area, Mr. Femi Ajayi stressed that proper maintenance of the boreholes would enhance its benefits to the people.
Mr. Ajayi who noted that government has started laying pipes from Kajola Ise through Uso road and Aba Igbira to Secretariat road, said that the state and local governments’ collaborative efforts at tackling water shortage is already yielding positive results as communities like Obada and Afolu now enjoy uninterrupted water supply.
He said his administration had sunk 5 boreholes in some farmsteads which include: Aba Onisu, Ajebamidele, Oladoyinbo, EgbiraEse and AbaOsogbo.
The Caretaker Chairman further said efforts are on to repair some boreholes with overhead tanks within Ise and Orun.
He appealed to communities where water shortage is still being experienced to exercise patience as the Fayemi led administration is
