Ekiti State Government has within the last two years expended over N9.5m to enhance Vocational education in the State through skill acquisition training.
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Eniola Ajayi made this known during the closing ceremony of the 2nd edition of the summer Holiday Camp Training Programme organised by the State Government for youths tagged “ Ekiti Youths Empowerment
Scheme”.
Dr. Ajayi stressed that the programme was part of the 8-point agenda of the Fayemi- administration in providing affordable, qualitative, functional and suitable education for the youths.
She restated the commitment of the present administration to taking Technical Education to its highest Level, adding that government was planning to transform Technical Colleges in the state into Centres of excellence.
She advised Ekiti Youths to complement the efforts of the State government by attaching importance to technical and Vocational Education stressing that society should note that technical and vocational education is not meant for drop outs. Dr. Ajayi urged the participants to make use of the knowledge gained from the training to create wealth.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of Board of Technical and Vocational Training Mr. Paul Olatoye described the progamme as part of the vision of the State Government to tackle poverty.
Mr. Olatoye counselled Ekiti youths to develop interest in the technical and vocational education to enable them be self employed.
Responding on behalf of other participants, Olabisi Ayotomiwa thanked the State Government for organising the programme.
Another participant, Tobi Adeleke described the programme as an eye opener to self employment and self sufficiency.
Participants at the programme were exposed to Bread making, Hairdressing, Cloth making, tiling of floors and walls ,Catering services, Decoration, Soap making and Hat/Mat making among others.
