Doherty Tasks Civil Society Organisations On Lowering HIV/AIDS Prevalence Rate

The Programme Manager of the Ekiti State AIDS Control Agency (EKSACA), Dr. Charles Doherty has urged Civil Society Organisations in the state to redouble their efforts in the quest to  further bring down the prevalence rate of HIV/AIDs to the bearest minimum.

Speaking in Ado-Ekiti at the quarterly meeting of officials of EKSACA and Civil Society Organisations in the State, Dr. Doherty urged stakeholders to utilize available resources to further enlighten the people and care for the patients suffering from the disease.

Doherty directed Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), working in the 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to forward the reports of their activities to the focal person in each of the LGA in order to ensure proper record of their activities.

The Programme Manager also enjoined the new NGOs collaborating with the Agency to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by SACA to link up with other implementing partners.

Also speaking at the forum , the Agency’s Community Mobilization Officer, Mr. Remi Ajayi explained that the meeting was convened for the quarterly review of the activities of EKSACA and Civil Society Organisations in the State.

Mr. Ajayi stressed the role of Civil Society Organisation in stemming the tide of HIV/AIDs in the State which he said necessitated the SACA/CSO’s quarterly meetings. According to him, the meetings provide avenue for review of HIV implementation, sharing of experiences on the field, review of disbursement of World Bank’s grant and mobilisation of resources for NGOs.

Responding on behalf of the Civil Society Organisations, the Programme Officer of Malaria (ATM) Global Fund Project, Mrs. Bukola Adedeji lauded EKSACA efforts at coordinating the activities of the Civil Society Organisation.

Mrs Adedeji described the relationship of the Agency with the CSOs since inception as robust and impressive, advising all stakeholders to keep up the good works.
