A 5-day intensive training programme organized by the Ekiti State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources for the officers of the ministry has ended with a call on the participants to work towards realizing the objective of the Dr. Fayemi-led administration of making Agriculture a major source of revenue by 2014.
Speaking at the end of the training programme in Ado Ekiti, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Babajide Arowosafe said all hands must be on deck to make agriculture a feasible source of revenue and sustainable employment, food security and provision of industrial raw materials.
He said the training of staff of the ministry on value chain would imbibe a new orientation in them, stressing that achieving the target of generating 50% of the entire IGR of the state by 2014 was realizable.
Mr. Arowosafe who was represented by his Permanent Secretary, Mrs Funmilayo Ajayi noted that the training programme would enable them function effectively in their different departments.
He urged the Agric Officers to replicate the knowledge gained at the workshop to other staff that did not have the opportunity of attending and allow the training to have the required multiplier effect on their productivity.
Mr. Arowosafe expressed appreciation to the management of the United Nations Development Programme for partnering with the state in the area of training.
Responding on behalf of the participants, the Chairman of the State Agricultural Transformation Agenda, Engr. Kayode Ilesanmi expressed gratitude to the organizers of the training programme and called for regular organisation of similar training programmes for staff of the ministry in view of the enormous challenges ahead of them. Engr. Ilesanmi who is also the General Manager of the Farm Settlement and Peasant Training Agency promised that they would work with other stakeholders in the Agric sector to realize the objective of making agriculture the major source of revenue of the state by 2014.
