Ekiti State Government has cleared the backlog of promotion of over 2,100 local government workers and the confirmation of appointment of 2,500 others which were inherited from the previous administration.
The Chairman of the State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Aderemi Ajayi who made this known in Ado Ekiti, said that the promotion and confirmation were for 2009 and 2010.
Ajayi who urged other local government workers that are due for the 2011 promotion to prepare for and write the promotion examination scheduled to hold in October, stated that the Dr. Fayemi-led administration in the State is not only workers-friendly but also interested in ensuring that workers get what is due for them.
He explained that the aim of the examination was to ensure professional competence and improve the performance of its workforce; adding that the promotions of workers according to section C of the Local Government Service Commission rules.
The Chairman added that the possession of professional qualifications from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) or Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) would be a prerequisite for the next promotion and appointment of Accountants in the State.
Ajayi however appealed to workers to therefore continually support government’s efforts at improving their lots as well as developing the State.
