EKSG Seals Off 11 Sawmills For Illegal Logging Activities

Ekiti State Government has sealed off eleven sawmills at Ikere Ekiti for flouting regulations guiding logging activities in the State.

The affected sawmills are Gbajumo sawmill, Ase mill, Sergeant Sawmill, Oremeji Sawmill, Ore sawmill, Tell me sawmill, Babade sawmill, Oluporo sawmill, Obateru sawmill, Aladejebi sawmill and Bisi Aloba sawmill.

Speaking during an inspection tour of sawmills in Ikere Ekiti, the State Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Barrister Paul Omotoso reiterated the resolve of government to sanitize logging business in the State. Barrister Omotoso stressed that government would frown at tax defaulters adding that any sawmill found harbouring  illegal logs or engage in any form of illegal logging activity would be made to face the wrath of the law.

Emphasising that the monitoring exercise would be a continuous one, the Commissioner charged all sawmillers in the state to pay their renewal fees and  come up with evidence or payment, adding that any defaulter would be dealt with according to the law.
