Ekiti State Ministry of Women Affairs, Social Development and Gender Empowerment has organised a training workshop for Research Assistants and Supervisors on orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) survey in the State.
Addressing participants at the workshop in Ado, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Social Development and Gender Empowerment Mrs. Fola Richie–Adewusi said the training was aimed at generating reliable data that would assist the State in the formulation of policies geared towards alleviating the problems of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC).
Mrs Richie-Adewusi who was represented at the occasion by the Deputy Director Child Development, Mrs Lola Ologuntoye said the training would also enable the participants to be well-equipped on the specific information to be gathered about the OVC with a view to determining how to make adequate planning for them.
According to the Consultant in charge of the training, Mr Taiwo Benson, Ekiti is the third State in Nigeria to do in-depth assessment and situation analysis of OVC. Participants at the training were drawn from the National Population Commission, Bureau of Statistics and graduates of demography and social statistics. Some of the participants lauded the initiative, saying it would afford them the opportunity to contribute their quota to the development of the state.
