Ekiti State Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Mr Paul Omotoso has warned people erecting houses on  waterways and floodplains to desist from the act because it is capable of  endangering their lives and  properties.
Omotoso gave the warning while inspecting some areas affected by flood in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.
The Commissioner said that the State Government is consciously monitoring the flooded area in the state, adding that such areas have been identified for urgent attention.

He stated that the Governor has approved funds for the  dredging of Awedele-Ilamoji  Stream at Basiri area of Ado-Ekiti,  while  incessant flooding of  the  Mountain of Fire , Crownbiz areas   and  the neighbourhoods  around  River Ofin in Adebayo and Opopogbooro areas of the state capital are equally receiving the attention of the State Government.

Omotoso noted that  efforts were  also in top gear to construct erosion control canals  in the Jimoh Aliu and  Orire areas of Ado-Ekiti.
Omotoso, together with his counterparts in the Ministries of Works and Transport and Urban and Regional Planning also visited the bridge around the Crownbiz Hotel along Ado-Iworoko road where he charged the contractor to expand the bridge to allow free flow of water.
