17TH National Sports Festival: Ekiti Rewards Medallists With N2.8M

Medalists at the 17th National Sports Festival (Garden City Games 2011) held in Port-Harcourt have been rewarded with cash awards totalling N2.8 million by the Ekiti State Government.

Presenting the cash to the Medallists at a reception organized for the State’s contingent at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado, Governor Kayode Fayemi congratulated the athletes and their officials for representing the State well during the sports fiesta.

The Governor who was represented at the occasion by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Chief Folorunso Olabode urged the award recipients not to relent efforts, instead they should start preparing for greater feats in the next edition of the festival coming up in Lagos later in the year.

The athletes that won Gold medals received N250,000 each while silver medallists got N150,000 each as Bronze medallists smiled away with N100,000 each.

Meanwhile, the Ikere Ekiti born ace boxer, Adewale Masebinu has won a silver medal at the just concluded 2nd ECOWAS Games that took place in Ghana. Masebinu who fought in the 75 kg category had earlier won silver medal at the 17th National Sports Festival held in Port-Harcourt.
