June 25, 2012

Ekiti State Government has revealed that the new vehicle number plate will enhance security of the vehicles and provide more information
about the owners.
Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Service, IRS, Mr. IsolabAkingbade gave this information while speaking at a forum in Ado.
Mr. Akingbade explained that the new number plate  is issued with bar-coded stickers that will make it difficult for vehicle owners to remove a number plate from a vehicle and attach it to another.
He decried the use of government number plates on private vehicles, stressing that culprits would henceforth be sanctioned.
According to the IRS Chairman, the National Assembly has placed embargo on the production of new plate numbers by FRSC but as soon as the embargo is lifted, it would be available for sale to members of the public.
He urged the public to patronize the state for their vehicles registration, and assured that the cost of registration in the State is competitive compared to what obtains in neighbouring states.
Mr. Akingbade who said that the State Internal Revenue Service has decentralized the issuance of vehicle licence for the benefit  of the people in the rural areas explained that the cost is the same in all the Zonal Offices as in the Headquarters.
He condemned under-age driving, explaining that  drivers licence could  not be issued to a potential drivers below  the age of 18 adding that  drivers licences would henceforth be issued based on physical appearance of the would-be driver.
The Chairman urged motorists to be careful and obey traffic rules, warning that the State Traffic Management Agency would be more aggressive with traffic offenders.
