May 17, 2012

Ekiti State government in a bid to boost electricity supply in the state, has approved the installation of twenty four distribution transformers in the state capital and two technical colleges in Ado-Ekiti and Ikole Local Governments.

The installation of the transformers and extension of electricity is to be contracted out at the sum of over one hundred and thirty eight million naira.

Speaking to journalists after the weekly State Executive meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Hon. Funminiyi Afuye noted that that the gesture is meant to encourage small scale business in the state as communities that were yet to be served with transformers will benefit in order to be linked with the National Grid.

The state spokesman also noted that the state government will not hesitate to take appropriate actions against some elements taking provocative actions preventing the account of some Local Government workers from being credited with their salaries.

According to the Commissioner, about four Local Governments out of the 16 Local Governments have been frustrating the efforts of the workers from getting their current monthly salaries. He therefore charged the Union leaders in Ijero, Ilejemeje, Ekiti East and Ikole Local Governments to desist from the actions or face the appropriate sanctions.
