Ministry of Women affairs organises Training for Marriage Registry Officials

Ekiti State Ministry of Women Affairs, Social Development and Gender Empowerment has organized a one-day training workshop for Marriage Registry Officials in the 16 LGAs of the State, to curb the alarming rate of divorce and other related social crises.

Declaring open the workshop, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Social Development and Gender Empowerment,  Mrs. Fola Richie – Adewusi noted that there was need to pay more attention to the essence of marriage beyond its celebrations.

Mrs. Richie Adewusi explained that the workshop was designed to address various challenges facing families in relation to marriage foundation noting that ideal family living will impact positively on communities and enhance nation building.

Adewusi who observed that the influence of pre and post marital counselling in consummation could not be over-emphasized, stressed the need for a uniform marriage process in the state registries.

She disclosed that about fifty marriages have been recorded since the Model Counselling and Marriage Registry was established in 2007.

Mrs. Richie Adewusi lauded the efforts of Governor Fayemi and the wife, Erelu Bisi Fayemi for supporting families through the various people – oriented programmes and for assisting the less privileged through the Ekiti Development Foundation (EDF).

Participants at the workshop were optimistic that the knowledge acquired would go a long way to equip them in handling marriage issues better.
