The Ekiti State House of Assembly has debunked the rumour that it plans to impeach its Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Omirin.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon. Ogunlola Omowumi stated this while speaking to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti.
Hon. Ogunlola described the rumour as a figment of the imagination of the peddlers, whom she described as political jobbers and idle people.
The lawmaker, who said she has the mandate of all members of the Assembly to address the press on the issue remarked that members of the Assembly are a united group that cannot be intimidated by political jobbers.
According to the information committee Chairman , all members of the Assembly which have been on recess since March, reported and participated in parliamentary session on May 7, without any rancour.
She advised those peddling the rumour to find something doing as the members of the present Assembly are committed to serving the good people of the State without recourse to unnecessary politicking and bickering.
The Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Orisalade Taiwo, who was also present at the briefing, debunked the rumour and said that no member of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) will get involved in such plot.
On the insinuation that members of the Assembly might have felt unhappy for non approval of constituency allowance to the present lawmakers, the Deputy Speaker described this as being far from the truth.
Hon. Orisalade said the members of the Assembly are proven professionals who are in the House on a service mission.
He said that non approval of constituency allowance to individual members would not affect their performance and described the practice as financial recklessness of government in the past.
Present at the briefing were the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adewale Omirin and the Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Ade Ajayi.
Rt. Hon. Omirin said that there is no basis for his impeachment as he cannot be accused of financial recklessness as he is not the Chairman of the Fund Management Committee, a position, he ought to have statutorily occupied.
He advised those peddling rumours to desist and join hands with the Assembly to uplift the State to the next level.
