Ekiti State Commissioner for Education and Technology, Dr. Eniola Ajayi has solicited support of the various stakeholders in the education sector for the conduct of the proposed Teachers Development Needs Assessment Test for Teachers coming up on 28th May, 2012.
Dr. Ajayi made the plea at a meeting with the representatives of ANCOPOSS, COPSHON, NUT and ASUSS in Ado-Ekiti.
The Commissioner reassured teachers that the objective of the test is not to witch-hunt anybody as being rumoured but to improve the standard of education in the State.
Dr. Ajayi who expressed displeasure about the mass failure of students of public schools in the State in public examinations stressed the need for teachers to redouble their efforts to combat these educational challenges adding that the level of performance of some teachers in the state was too low.
The Commissioner debunked the rumour that government wanted to close down some public schools in the state saying that the reforms in the sector was to lift education in Ekiti to enviable heights.
She restated the commitment of the present administration to the welfare of teachers stressing that state government would not do anything that this would affect them negatively.
Responding, the Acting Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Awolusi Oluwole who is also ANCOPSS’s Chairman in the State requested for training of all the teachers before conducting the assessment test.
