A Review Of Government Activities In 2012

The year 2012 was full of activities – social events and governance issues – many of which have earned the State Government  a pride of place in the federation. No doubt,  the driver of these programmes, the Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, deserved the Governor of the Year 2011 which was conferred on him by The Leadership Newspaper.

Below are the activities spread over 2012.






Ekiti Gets N1 Billion Agric Loan

Better times are here for farmers in Ekiti State as the State Government has finally taken custody of the One Billion Naira Agric credit loan facilitated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), through the First Bank of Nigeria Plc. It could be recalled that the state government had in December, 2011 signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the N1 Billion CBN Agric loan.

Ire Burnt Brick to Commence Production in September

Indications emerged that Ire Burnt Brick Industry in Ire- Ekiti, Ekiti State which has been moribund for about two decades, would be revived to commence operation within the next eight months.







Akande Mourns Professor Aluko

National Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Chief Bisi Akande commiserated with the Ekiti State Government on the death of renowned Economist, Professor Samuel Aluko who passed away on Monday, 6th of February in a London hospital after an illness.
Our New Digital Media Channels Will Make Us More Accountable, Says Fayemi

Ekiti State Governor, Dr.Kayode Fayemi, has said the creation of new digital media channels by his administration was intended to entrench probity, accountability and transparency in governance.

The new channel, www.ekitistate.gov.ng, is linked to the Facebook, slideshare, google plus, Twitter, flickr and YouTube as well as mobile applications for android and Blackberry, and Nokia devices.

15 Years After Creation, Ekiti Finally Gets Own Laws

Dr. Kayode Fayemi appends his assent to a bill on the first edition of the laws of Ekiti State, a gesture that has finally freed the state from its fifteen year-long appendage to its sister state, Ondo State.

House Of Assembly Passes Bill On Social Security For The Elderly

The Ekiti State House of Assembly passed a bill for a law to provide welfare assistance in form of cash grants or in – kind assistance to elderly persons who are residents in Ekiti State.

The bill seeks to provide for a system of welfare assistance including free health care and payment for welfare grants to the elderly as a way to reduce old age poverty in our state.

Fayemi Signs Social Security Bill To Law As Beneficiaries Hits 20,000

It is recalled that the Ekiti State’s social security programme, which is the first in Nigeria and West Africa, was announced by the Governor on 1st October 2011. Payment of the N5,000 monthly stipends to the elderly citizens commenced in the sixteen local government areas of the state on 25th of the same month.

Fayemi Flags Off Distribution Of 33,000 Laptops To Ekiti Students And Teachers

The 11,000 laptops handed out at an impressive ceremony held at the African Church Comprehensive High School, Ikere-Ekiti, marked the first phase of distribution of a total 33,000 units of laptop computers  to students and teachers under the administration’s e-School Project.





Ekiti Approves N19,332 Minimum Wage For Workers

Ekiti State Government declared its intention to commence the immediate implementation of new minimum wage for its workers on Grade Level 7 to 17.  The state minimum wage is based on N19, 332 which is N1,332 more than the N18,000 passed into Law by the National Assembly.

Ekiti N20 Billion Bond Now Listed On Stock Exchange Floor

Governor Fayemi said the decision to get the bond was borne out of the commitment of his administration for the rapid development of the State as encapsulated in the 8-point agenda of the administration.





Fayemi Mourns Omoboriowo; A Consummate Nationalist And Defender Of Ekiti Interest Is Gone

Fayemi recalled the contributions of Omoboriowo to the development of old Ondo State which now comprises of Ekiti and Ondo States, stressing that the late politician was part of the legacies of the Adekunle Ajasin-led administration on which the progressive governments in the Southwest are trying to build upon.

The Matriarch of the Fayemi family of Isan Ekiti, Mrs. Dorcas Aina Fayemi, slept in the Lord on Sunday, April 15, 2012. She was aged 83.




Infrastructure: Fayemi Pays N275 Million Compensation To Property Owners

Dr. Kayode Fayemi presented cheques of one hundred and ninety million, eight hundred and sixty thousand , nine hundred and twenty- three naira (N190, 860, 923) as compensation to people whose properties would be demolished to pave way for the dualisation of the New Garage- Ojumose-Okeyinmi- Baptist Church Road and Atikankan-Igbehin road, in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Another 10,000 Elderly Citizens to Benefit from Fayemi’s Social Security Scheme

Another 10,000  elderly citizens in Ekiti State benefited  from the social security scheme  introduced by the Fayemi – administration under which indigent senior citizens are paid a stipend of N5,000 per month.


Fayemi Matriarch Laid To Rest

The remains of Madam Dorcas Aina Fayemi, mother of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi was laid to rest in Isan Ekiti, amidst calls for a change in parental values. Madam Fayemi died in April 15th, 2012 at the age of 83 years.


Ekiti Commences Ado-Ekiti Road Dualization

The State Government commenced the dualization of Old Garage-Ojumose road with the demolition of structures to pave way for the construction work.

 Dr Kayode Fayemi flagged off the Eyiyato Kero-Direct Enterprise.  The project is designed to make the product available across all the local government areas of the state, it is not a profit making venture but masses- oriented programme with numerous benefits for the people.





Fayemi Swears In New Chief Judge

Justice Ayodeji Daramola was sworn in as the new Chief Judge of the state, with a charge ensure a drastic reduction in the number of Awaiting Trial Detainees (ATDs) in the state’s prison.
EKSG Approves N28 Million For Orin Farm Settlement Electrification Project

Ekiti State Government approved the electrification project of Orin Farm Settlement at the cost of N27.2  million naira.
The electrification project covers about 4.2 km from the town to the farm settlement and will be complemented with a transformer and street lights.

Ekiti State Government and the Gauteng Provincial Parliament of South Africa began a bilateral relations aimed at reviving the spirit of Pan-African and sharing best practices that could deepen democracy.

The inauguration of the first family court in the state by the government  in its concerted efforts to ensure justice for women and children and promoting peace in the family. The court is aimed to serve the general interest of families seeking redress over perceived injustice.

Udiroko Festival: A Catalyst For DevelopmentUdiroko was established at about 1310 AD during the reign of Oba Awamaro the first Ewi in the modern and present day Ado-Ekiti.  It is the first day of Ado-Ekiti like the January 1st of modern calendar.  It is a day the people set aside for individuals to give thanks for his or her creator OLORUN hence the nickname “OLORUNBORUN” festival.



Samsung To Establish Engineering Academy In Ado-Ekiti

As part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the state government and the management of Samsung in Seoul, South Korea, the Electronics Giant is set to establish an Engineering Academy in Ado-Ekiti.

Fayemi Doles Out N238 Million For Community Development Projects

26 communities in the State  were presented cheques worth N238 million (Two Hundred and Thirty-Eight Million Naira) for Community Development Projects of the State Community and Social Development Agency (EKSCDA).

Ekiti SUBEB Model School Emerges Best Primary School In Nigeria

SUBEB Model Nursery and Primary School, Ado-Ekiti was rated the best primary school in the country. The school was adjudged best in the primary school category by the award committee of  the 2012  President’s Teachers and Schools’ Excellence Award  during the World Teachers’ Day celebration held at the Eagle’s Square  Abuja.


Fayemi Commissions 103KM Roads, 5 Water Treatment Plants

Ten major roads totaling 103 km were commissioned by Dr Kayode Fayemi  in fulfilment of the resolve of his administration to make all the communities in the State accessible by motorable roads by 2014.






Fayemi Commissions Multi-Million Naira Ward, Ambulances

A multi-million naira Accident and Emergency ward, a laboratory and a male surgical ward were commissioned by Dr Kayode Fayemi at the State’s Teaching Hospital, Ado- Ekiti, with a promise to increase funding of health care services in the state.

Also commissioned were seven ambulances purchased for some secondary health facilities in the State. The ambulances were immediately handed  over to the officials of the health facilities and the representatives of the communities.


21 Years After, Ire Burnt Brick Factory Resurrects

After 21 years of its dormancy, Ire Burnt Brick Industry in Ire- Ekiti, was finally  resuscitated and opened for operations.








Ekiti , Dutch Company Sign MoU On Cassava Processing Plant

Ekiti State Government and the Dutch Agricultural Development and Trading Company (DADTCO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding  for the establishment of a Cassava processing plant in the State.





Ekiti Free Health Beneficiaries Hit 400,000

No fewer than 400,000 people have benefited from the free mobile health mission of the Dr Kayode Fayemi administration in Ekiti State since inception in 2011.



Fayemi Presents N93.6bn 2013 Appropriation Bill To State Assembly

Dr Kayode Fayemi, presented a budget proposal of  N 93,616,830. 001 Billion for year 2013 to the State House of Assembly.

The budget which is christened “the Budget  of Empowerment and Consolidation” has a proposed recurrent expenditure of  N46,416,141,231 representing 49.6 per cent of the total budget estimate, while capital expenditure is N47,200,688,770, representing 50.4 per cent .



63 Ekiti Students Honoured For Excelling In National Mathematical Competition

63 Ekiti students who performed well in the National Mathematical and Science Olympiad Competition held throughout the federation on March 13, 2012 were given awards of excellence by the National Mathematical Centre, Abuja.

Fayemi Mourns Late Primate Adetiloye

Adetiloye, who died at the age of 82, served as the Primate and Archbishop Metropolitan of the Anglican Communion in Nigeria between 1986 and 1999.
