Ekiti State Government is set to revive Cocoa and palm oil production in the State. The Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Otunba Remi Bodunrin made this known in a meeting with the representatives of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Ado.
The Commissioner who highlighted the key areas of industrial development as regards to Agriculture to include, Rice Production, Cocoa, Cassava, Palm oil and Banana, said these could be achieved through Co-operatives. He said that Cooperative Societies in the country are passing through restructuring process to accommodate industrial development.
The leader of the team, Dr. Olu Omosaye said the team was in the State to do a follow up of the earlier visit of UNIDO in February this year. Dr. Omosaye explained the UNIDO mission is to carry agriculture businesses in the State from raw materials to processing, marketing and exporting.
He said that UNIDO is out to ensure food security and that the team will be in the State for the next two weeks to carry out a study on agricultural commodities which can add value to employment, income and food security.
The team inspected the Rice Processing Industry, Igbemo and Oil Palm Industry Aisegba – Ekiti.
