EKSG Shuts Down Another 35 Unregistered Private Schools

As part of efforts at improving the standard of education, Ekiti State Government has closed down another set of 35 sub-standard and unregistered private schools, bringing the number of schools recently closed down in the state to 166.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Eniola Ajayi, stressed that private schools that could not meet the standard set by the state government would not be allowed to operate.
Dr. Ajayi who reiterated the commitment of the Fayemi-led administration to the provision of a conducive learning environment that would enable student perform excellently, stressed that government would not compromise the future of children in the state.
The Commissioner recalled that government had recently renovated public school buildings and built additional modern classrooms and offices while furniture items were also provided in the schools.

Advising Proprietors who could not afford to run standard school to bow out gracefully, Dr. Ajayi warned that government would continually fish out sub-standard and unregistered schools in the state.
She said that the minimum standard expected from the proprietors include: operation on their permanent site after three years of establishment, registration by government, 4 standard classrooms at inception, functional library, separate laboratory for Physics, Chemistry and Biology for secondary schools.
Others are availability of quality teachers and principal with at least 5 years teaching experience as well as adequate and suitable furniture coupled with the availability of at least 4 standard toilets.
