About N19 million has been disbursed to 126 Ekiti Law School Students as their 2012 bursary allowance.
Presenting the cheques to the beneficiaries who received a sum of one hundred and fifty thousand naira each, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Eniola Ajayi said the gesture was to encourage academic excellence and alleviate the financial burden of Ekiti students in tertiary institutions.
Dr. Ajayi who was represented by the Chairman of the State Scholarship Board, Chief Deji Adegbite stressed the commitment of the Fayemi led administration to the welfare of students.
According to the Commissioner, the State Government has disbursed over fifty three million naira as scholarship to nine hundred and six students since the advent of the Fayemi led administration in 2010.
She said 456 students were given a sum of N27,060,000.00 in the first batch of 2010/2011 while another set of 450 students were paid a sum of N26,460,000.00 in the second batch.
The Commissioner added that the administration also reviewed the bursary award from five thousand naira to ten thousand naira with effect from the 2011/2012 session.
She enjoined the beneficiaries to justify government’s huge investment in the education sector by concentrating on their studies, adding that they should also make judicious use of the money in order to achieve the desired goal.
