Oba Urges Government To Use Ero Dam For Commercial Agriculture

November 22, 2012

Onigogo of Igogo-Ekiti, Oba Sunday Adewumi has called on the Ekiti State Government to make use of the Ero dam and the vast arable land in the area for commercial agriculture.

Oba Adewumi made this call while receiving the Special Adviser on Infrastructure and Public Utility, Mr. Kayode Jegede in his Palace at Igogo Ekiti. Oba Adewumi said the establishment of a fish pond by the dam would curb the activities of illegal fishermen. He noted that the State would gain a lot if irrigation farming is also introduced, adding that such step would generate employment, increase the internally generated revenue and boost the socio economic activities of the citizenry.

The monarch however lauded the conscious efforts of the state government in road rehabilitation, social security scheme and improved health care delivery.

Earlier, the Special Adviser on Infrastructure and Public Utility, Mr. Kayode Jegede had said he was in the town to sensitise the people on water sustainability and usage. According to Mr. Jegede, Ekiti is the second state in the nation to put in place a Water and Sanitation Master Plan. The Special Adviser said that the features of the Water Master Plan include the introduction of metering system on both public and private taps as a means of checking wastage of water. The sensitisation visit to the Community was a form of participatory governance which gives the people a voice in matters affecting them, noting that the Fayemi administration will not embark on any unpopular or anti-people policy. He therefore solicited the cooperation of the people in all its programmes and policies.
