Ekiti Restates Commitment To Provision Of Potable Water

Ekiti State Government has restated its commitment to the provision of affordable and quality water for its citizenry.

The Special Adviser on Infrastructure and Public Utility, Mr. Kayode Jegede stated this at a village meeting on water sustainability at Ikosu –Ekiti in Moba Local Government Area.
Mr. Jegede said Agenda 2 of the 8-point agenda of the Fayemi led administration is to make all the dams in the state functional so as to improve the daily supply of water to the people. He said the State Water Corporation has been mandated to start metering all public taps in the state as a means of checking wastages.

The Special Adviser noted that the introduction of water meters will also enhance water sustainability through regular maintenance of pipes and taps. Mr. Jegede said Ikosu and Igogo communities are the pilot towns for the scheme, noting that the money to be charged will be reasonable.

In his address, the Chairman of the State Water Corporation, Engineer Bode Adetunji said the exercise will not be a financial burden on the people rather it will engender communal ownership of facilities.
Engineer Adetunji said the present administration will continue to make life comfortable for the people and appealed for understanding of the people for the exercise which he said would bring forth good results in earnest.

Also speaking, the Obanikosu of Ikosu Ekiti, Oba Joseph Adeoye appreciated the efforts of the state government at the on-going erosion control project in the community. Oba Adeoye said the policy to better the lots of the people is a welcome development and pledged the support of his subjects for the state government.
