Commissioner Warns Against Indiscriminate Dumping Of Refuse In Road Drainages

November 12, 2012

Ekiti State Commissioner for Works and Transportation, Mr. Sola Adebayo has warned people in the State to desist from dumping refuse in the drainages of newly constructed roads.

Mr. Adebayo who gave the warning in Ado Ekiti, said that anyone caught dumping refuse indiscriminately in drainages of roads would be prosecuted. While noting that this unwholesome practice could lead to blockage of the drainages and ultimately damage the newly constructed roads, the Commissioner advised the people to make judicious use of the waste vans provided by the state government at designated locations across the state by properly disposing their waste.

Also speaking, one of the Contractors handling the on-going road projects in the state, Dromo International Construction Company, expressed dismay on the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the drainages by the people. According to him, this unwholesome practice could shorten the life span of the roads.

The Commissioner had earlier expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the expansion and rehabilitation of various roads in the state.

Assuring that the state government would not deviate from its resolve to ensure delivery of quality jobs, Adebayo said that the projects would be completed on schedule.
