Ekiti Commences Process Of Renovating And Re-equipping Government Hospitals

In line with the resolve of the Ekiti State Government to ensure continued provision of a holistic and comprehensive health care services in government hospitals in the state, the State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Olusola Fasubaa has directed Medical Officers of Health (MOH) in the state to submit their appraisal of existing equipment and infrastructure that will assist in planning the proposed upgrade of medical facilities in the state.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti during an emergency meeting with the Medical Officers of Health (MOH), Prof. Fasubaa said the state government would soon embark on renovation of all public hospitals in the state.

He also directed the MOHs to carry along community leaders in their respective areas and inculcate the inputs of the leaders in their appraisal in order to identify their peculiar needs.

The Commissioner stressed that the appraisal of the MOHs would enable government identify areas of need and prioritise them against its limited resources.

According to the Commissioner, the construction of two new general hospitals would soon commence at Ilawe Ekiti in Ekiti South West Local Government Area and Iye Ekiti in Ilejemeje Local Government Area.

In a related development, Community leaders have been enjoined to be involved in the process of health care delivery in their respective areas.

The Permanent Secretary, Hospital Management Board (HMB), Dr. Kolawole Aina gave the charge while addressing the Hospital Management
Committee (HMC) during an inspection tour of the Ikole Specialist Hospitals as well as the General Hospitals at Ode and Omuo Ekiti.

Dr. Aina explained that the community leaders would be of immense assistance in helping medical officers identify the needs of each hospital in their areas.

The Permanent Secretary said government was sincere with its resolve to meet the needs of the people stressing that government’s good intention may be hindered without necessary cooperation of the community leaders.
