The Ekiti State House of Assembly has appealed to members of the Tipper/Lorry Owners Association, Ado-Ekiti Branch to reduce the current price charged on sand and gravel in the state.
Members of the House Committee on Commerce, Industry and cooperatives made the appeal at a meeting conveyed by the Assembly in Ado-Ekiti.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Fatunbi Olajide, who observed that prices of sand and gravel jumped up arbitrarily in January, 2012 said that the price increase had brought further hardship to the people of the state.
The Committee Chairman urged members of the Association to review downward their new price regime in operation now.
The Assembly Deputy Speaker, Hon. Orisalade Taiwo also appealed to members of the Association to shift ground on the new price in the in the interest of Ekiti people.
The Ewi in council, which was represented by chief Ape Olusola and Chief Kayode Ogunleye also pleaded with members of the Association to re-consider an earlier appeal made by the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Rufus Adejugbe on the issue.
The members of the Association explained that the new price of theirServices was not basically linked to the relent partial removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government but on response to the present economic realities in the country.
The Stakeholders meeting was adjourned till a yet to be announced date.
