L-R: A beneficiary, Mrs. Alice Ojuawo; Chairman, Action Congress of Nigeria, Ise-Ekiti, Pa Joseph Alabi; and Governor Kayode Fayemi, at the flag-off of the State's Social Security Scheme, in Ise-Ekiti.

The State Commissioner for Labour, Productivity and Human Capital Development, Mr. Wole Adewumi has directed that payment of stipends to elderly citizens should no longer be by proxy.

The Commissioner gave the directive at various cash points visited while on monitoring of February payment of stipends to the elderly
citizens in some Local government areas.

Mr. Adewumi said that reports have indicated that some fraudulent members of the society have been collecting money meant for the
elderly ones under the pretense that the actual beneficiaries could not be personally present at the cash points.
He assured that any beneficiary who could not come personally for the collection would henceforth be visited by the team for payment at their various homes.

At Ido-Ekiti, an 85 years old man, Pa David Bobade who complained that someone has signed against his name and have his money collected, appealed to the State government to guard against such impersonation in the subsequent exercises.
Other beneficiaries in all the centres visited lauded the initiative of Dr. Kayode Fayemi for his love and passion for the elderly citizens, the first of its kind in the West Africa subregion.

At the Social Security Data centre, Mr. Wole Adewumi commended the efforts of the Data Team and its leader, Mr. Samuel Fadipe for their dedication to duty during the just concluded registration exercise.
He said that the exercise which was initially designed to take 13 days was reduced to 10, adding that over 30,000 forms were processed during the period.

While responding, the leader of the Data/Registration Officers, Mr. Samuel Fadipe stressed that the team was able to accomplish that feat because of the support and encouragement of the Commissioner and his team.
He assured that the final selection will be error-free as the team will do all it can to screen all the registration forms received, with
a view to ascertaining discrepancies based on laid down conditions.
