Ekiti State Pension Commission

1. The Commission shall regulate and supervise the Scheme.
2. Approve and maintain a list of approved PFAs, PFCs and other institutions relating to pension matters as the National Pension Commission.
3. Issue guidelines for the investment of pension funds.
4. Ensure maintenance of databank of pensioners in the state.
5. Carry out public awareness and education on the establishment and management of the scheme.
6. Receive, investigate and mitigate complaints of impropriety leveled against any PFA, PFC, or employer or any other staff or agent of any employee or former employee.
7. Liaise with the National Pension Commission from time to time.
8. Ensure payment of existing pensioners.
9. Promote and offer technical assistance in the application of the Contributory Pension Scheme by the State and Local Governments.
10. Perform such other duties which in the opinion of the Commission are necessary or expedient for the discharge of its functions.

During the period under review, the commission recorded significant achievements in the administration and implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme in Ekiti State. These include the following:

1. Prompt Payment of Retirement Benefits: The commission ensured the prompt and immediate processing and payment of retirement benefits to eligible CPS retirees. From January 2025 to 30^th June 2026, a total of eighty-eight (88) CPS retirees received their retirement benefits, amounting to N168,918,873.92.
2. Enlistment of New CPS Participants: The Commission continued to ensure the enlistment of eligible employees into the Contributory Pension Scheme upon appointment into the Ekiti State Public Service.
3. Regular Updating of Expected Retirement Dates: The Commission regularly updates its database on the expected retirement dates of Public Servants across the State. Employees approaching retirement are identified and notifies six (6) months ahead of their expected retirement dates, thereby facilitating proper preparation and timely processing of their retirement benefits.
4.  Registration and Remittance into Retirement Savings Accounts: The Commission ensure the opening and funding of Retirement Savings Accounts (RSAs) for CPS participants upon successful completion of the registration process.
5. Maintenance of CPS Participants and Pensioners’ Data: The Commission continues to maintain and update the records of CPS participants. As at the period under review, there were 16,697 CPS participants in the Public Service of Ekiti State.
6. Payment of Accrued Pension Right: The Commission facilitated the payment of accrued pension rights from the Retirement Benefits Bond Redemption Fund (RBBRT) Account to CPS retirees in respect of services rendered under the Old Defined Benefit Scheme before the effective implementation of the CPS. The accrued rights relate to the period of past services rendered before the implementation of CPS in 2017 in the state (2010-2016).
7. Introduction of Service Regulations: The Commission introduced Service Regulations to promote effective, efficient and uniform operations of the Contributory Pension Scheme and to strengthen its relationship and operational interface with Pension Fund Administrators.

The law provides that there shall be 4 (four) specialized departments in the Commission.

These are:

1. Administration
2. Technical and Inspectorates
3. Investment and Compliance; and
4. Finance and Accounts.

However, the following Units are placed under the direct supervision of the Permanent Secretary:

1. Audit
2. Information and Communication Technology (ICT); and
3. Information.
