L-R; Commissioner for Women Affairs and Gender Empowerment, Mrs Fola Richie- Adewusi ; Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr Tayo Ekundayo; Ekiti State NUJ Chairman, Mr Laolu Omosilade; and Deputy Chief of Staff, Alhaji Mojeed Jamiu, during a News Conference on the third anniversary of the Dr Kayode Fayemi administration, in Ado- Ekiti.

The Dr. Kayode Fayemi-led administration in Ekiti State has lived up to expectations having executed over 1000 people-oriented projects in the 16 local government areas of the State since its emergence in October 2010.

This  assertion was made by the Chairman, Publicity sub-committee of the third anniversary of the Fayemi administration and Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr. Tayo Ekundayo during a news conference to unveil programmes lined up for the anniversary. The anniversary celebration is billed to kick off on Wednesday.

The Commissioner who asserted that the Fayemi-led administration has not disappointed Ekiti people who voted for the Governor in 2007 and 2009 rerun elections stated that the administration has recorded several achievements in all the areas built around the administration’s eight-point agenda inspite of paucity of funds.

Ekundayo explained that this was the first time in the history of the State that the people would “genuinely perceive physical development in their locality”, as the Fayemi-led administration has been able to site at least one developmental project in each of the 160 communities in the State.

He added that the strides were made through careful planning and prudent management of meagre resources that accrue to the State which is 35th on the federation allocation ladder.

Ekundayo said:  “It is an incontestable fact that the present administration has recorded several achievements in all facets of human endeavour particularly on rehabilitation and construction of roads as well as development of infrastructure particularly at the grassroots since its assumption in October 2010. This is in spite of debt burden of over N42 billion inherited at inception from the ousted regime in addition to a considerable social, economic, education and infrastructural neglect and decay the State suffered under the past administration. But with careful planning, prudent management of resources available to the State, the Fayemi administration has been able to deliver the dividends of democracy at an unprecedented scale and quality”.

On the third anniversary programme, the Commissioner disclosed that 9 intra-city and inter-city roads totalling 100 km, the Funmi Olayinka Diagnostic and Wellness Centre, Ikogosi Resort Centre redevelopment(phase 1), 5 projects at the State College of Health and Science Technology, Ijero, a Women Development Centre and new school buildings are among the projects that would be commissioned by the Governor as the activities marking the anniversary begin next week.

According to him, the second phase of the disbursement of Grant-in-Aid to communities for their development projects, the inauguration of the State Peace Corps, flag off of the National Health Insurance Scheme and the launch of the second phase of the Social Security Scheme which will now increase the database of elderly citizens getting the N5000 monthly stipend from the scheme from 20,000 to 25,000 would also be done.

Ekundayo called on all Ekiti indigenes to continue to support the positive efforts at transforming the State to an enviable one.

At the press conference were the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Gender Empowerment and Social Development, Mrs Fola Richie-Adewusi, two Special Advisers, Chief Biodun Akin Fasae and Mrs Kehinde Daramola, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Alhaji Mojeed Jamiu, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode,  the Director of Information Services in the State Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation, Mr Sunday Aribatise, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Mr Laolu Omosilade among others.
