NUT Hails Fayemi On Principals’ Elevation

The  Ekiti State wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has hailed the state Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, for the recent elevation of some secondary school  principals to Grade Level 17, a gesture the body described as a “clear testimony that the welfare and well-being of teachers are paramount to the state government”.

 The elevation of the school principals to the highest grade level in public service, was recently approved  by the Governor, who lauded teachers in the state for their steadfastness.

 The NUT, in a letter to the Governor, signed by the state NUT Chairman, Mr. Kayode Akosile and Secretary, Mr. Ola Idris and dated 28th April, 2014  said the gesture would spur teachers in the state to continue to put in their best in the collective efforts to lift education standard in the state.

 The body also pledged continued support for the government’s numerous education programmes and policies.

 The NUT , however,  drew the Governor’s attention to the plight of graduate teachers in primary schools who are also looking unto government for their own elevation.

 In a related development, some interest groups who recently received brand new buses from the state government have also expressed their appreciation Dr. Fayemi for the gesture.

 The bodies which conveyed their appreciation in separate letters to the Governor include the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations of Nigeria (NACOMYO) and the Catholic Laity Council, Ekiti Diocese.

 The NYSC Director General, Brig.-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, in a letter expressed delight with the donation of a 25-seater bus to the agency’s secretariat in Ekiti State by the Governor.

 Olawumi noted that the gesture would assist the scheme to effectively monitor Corps members thereby ensuring that they give their best to development if the state.

 The NYSC boss promised to always partner with the state government in delivering dividends of democracy through appropriate deployment of Corps manpower to all areas of need in Ekiti.

 NACOMYO in a letter signed by its State Secretary, Mufutau Olusola Bello said it had noted Governor Fayemi’s unbiased form of administration for the Muslims in the state which it described “unparalleled”.

 The group also commended the Governor for the earlier donation of cars to Imams and the approval of the use if Hijab in public primary and secondary schools in the state.

The Catholic Laity Council in its letter of appreciation to the Governor said the donation of a Toyota Hiace bus would assist in the task of evangelisation of Catholicism in the Diocese.

 The body pledged its continued spiritual and moral support to the Governor praying that the good work being witnessed in the state would continue beyond 2014.
