NHIS To Open Office In Ekiti

Over 400,000 people have benefitted from Governor Kayode Fayemi’s Free Health Mission since January, 2011.
The State Commissioner for Health, Professor Olusola Fasubaa made this declaration in his office in Ado Ekiti while receiving the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) team led by Professor Abdulrahman Sambo.

Professor Fasubaa restated government’s commitment to transforming the health sector at the grassroots in collaboration with NHIS and Millennium Development Goals (MDGS). The Commissioner said that a Technical Committee would soon be set-up by the State Ministry of Health in collaboration with NHIS to create proper awareness campaign through advocacy, sensitization and mobilization at the grassroots.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary, National Health Insurance Scheme, Prof. Abdulrahman Sambo commended the commitment of Governor Kayode Fayemi on improving lives of the poor masses especially on health related matters.

Prof. Sambo who said that over 100,000 people are expected to be registered in selected local government health facilities, noting that the response of the people to registration would play a prominent role in determining allocation of funds to the chosen health facilities.
He promised that NHIS office would soon be opened in Ekiti State, urging the state government to be ready to pay their counterpart fund as well as setting up of implementation and monitoring committee on public awareness on the importance of NHIS to the people.
