Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has assured nursing mothers that no single child will be lost to the war being waged to maintain zero percentage prevalence rate of wild polio in the State.
The Governor gave this assurance while flagging off the first round of the 2013 Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) in Ado Ekiti on Friday.
Dr. Fayemi who stated that though Ekiti State is rid of wild polio, all hands must be on deck to maintain the tempo so that the scourge would not find its way into the State through neighbouring States; adding that parents should not be negligent by preventing their children from being immunized.
He stressed that exposing children of immunization age to regular immunization programmes of Government would help in assuring the safety of the children.
While advocating more support from community and religious leaders, Governor Fayemi said State Governors have decided on a partnership with their neighbouring States in order to kick polio completely out of Nigeria.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Mrs Folake Falore said the immunisation exercise is aimed at complementing the routine immunization programmes in the State.
The Permanent Secretary lauded the effort of the Dr. Kayode Fayemi-led administration geared towards eradication of child and maternal mortality rate in the State; saying that all hands must be on deck to ensure that the indices are reduced to the barest minimum in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
