Road contractors in Ekiti State whose contracts were awarded during the Segun Oni-led administration but are yet to complete the projects now have 30 days to complete them or have their contracts revoked.
The State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who handed the affected contractors the 30-day ultimatum during a meeting held with them at the Executive Council’s chamber of the Governor’s office in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, also gave an October deadline for contractors that got their contracts during the present administration.
Governor Fayemi was apparently miffed at the slow pace of work on some of the projects and had called for the meeting in order to re-appraise the efforts of contractors handling all road projects across the State.
While urging the contractors to buckle up and expedite work on the projects in order not to be hindered by the approaching raining season, the Governor stated that contractors have no excuses not to deliver the road projects at the scheduled time, stressing that government is always honouring its own part of the deal. He added also that the people of Ekiti are taking government up on its promise to make all major roads motorable by 2014.

Fayemi who commended some of the contractors for constructing quality roads and delivering same on time, despite all odds, urged those who are still lagging behind to buckle up or be penalised based on the contractual agreement reached with government while taking up the contract.
