EKSG Sends Three Agric Officers On Oversea Training

In the bid to further enhance the capacity of  workers in the employment of Ekiti State Government, three senior officials of the State Ministry of Agriculture and National Resources are currently on overseas training, courtesy of the state government

The three officials who are pursuing different programmes at various reputable research  institutions  include the Director of Agric Services, Engr Gbenga Odesanmi, who is undergoing a two-week training programme on Modern Techniques on Cassava Production in China.

Others are two Agriculture Officers- Messrs Sunday Olutoye Alao and Akindele Sesan Olorunfemi. They are currently in Indonesia for  a six-week training programme on the latest methods of regenerating cocoa plantations through grafting, budding and artificial pollination.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture  and National Resources, Mr. Babajide Arowosafe, who disclosed this  in Ado-Ekiti said the overseas training was part of efforts of the Dr Kayode Fayemi-led administration to make farming  more attractive and boost commercial agriculture  in the state.

He noted that the government has already identified 66,000 hectares  of  cultivable land for cocoa production in the state out of which 60,000 hectares had been cultivated adding that the state intended to  raise an average of 500,000 improved seedlings every year.
