As part of efforts of the Fayemi led administration at ensuring a more efficient and effective service delivery in its public service, the Ekiti State Government has conducted promotion examination for 2,129 teaching and non-teaching staff in the state public secondary schools.
Speaking while monitoring the conduct of the examination, the Chairman of the State Teaching Service Commission, Prince Bayo Adeniran described the turn out of the affected workers as impressive, adding that both the teaching and non-teaching staff were orderly and peaceful in their conduct.
Prince Adeniran who explained that the examination was conducted by the State Teaching Service Commission in collaboration with the State Ministry of Education under standard examination condition, said that the invigilators and supervisors included the Permanent Secretary and other senior officials in the Ministry.
The Chairman reiterated government’s merit-based approach to appointment and promotion of its workers noting that the gesture was to also encourage workers to read wide, expand their scope and develop their knowledge in order to ensure optimum performance in schools.
Stressing government’s intention to boost academic performance of students in public schools by ensuring they were taught by quality teachers, Adeniran emphasised that era of automatic promotion was over as officers would only be promoted on merit.
He commended the State’s Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) and Association of National Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) for their support towards ensuring the success of the promotion examination.
One of the teachers who sat for the promotion examination, Mrs. Taiwo Akinola , a class teacher in Oloketuyi Memorial Grammar School, Igbemo-Ekiti described the questions in the examination as standard, adding that the difficulty level was not excessive.
Mrs. Akinola said that the examination would also boost the intellectual development of teachers in the state and therefore should be seen as a welcome development.
The examination was conducted in 4 centres in Ado-Ekiti, Aramoko-Ekiti, Ikole-Ekiti and Usi-Ekiti.
