As part of efforts at ensuring effective health care delivery under its Primary Health Care (PHC) scheme, the Ekiti State Government in collaboration with Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) office has organized a 10-day capacity building workshop for different categories of PHC workers in the state.
The State Commissioner for Health, Professor Olusola Fasubaa who declared the workshop open in Ado Ekiti, explained that the programme was aimed at updating the knowledge of the state health workers in current best health practices.
Reiterating the resolve of the Fayemi led administration to sustain an effective health care service in the state, Professor Fasubaa added that the Primary Health Care Development Agency was established to oversee and guarantee efficient service delivery from Primary Health Care facilities in the state.
The Commissioner stressed that the focus of government was to enhance efficient and effective health care services at the primary health care level, noting that when a disease goes unchecked, it can endanger the health and incapacitate millions of inhabitants around the world.
Fasubaa assured that the personnel employed by the state at the Primary Health Care development Agency and the 320 various categories of Health facilities strategically located in the state have been carefully packaged and specifically targeted towards achieving qualitative, preventive and curative health care services.
He said the present administration was passionate about establishing necessary safeguards that would guarantee Primary health care including the provision of many services that might be considered “commonplace”.
Urging the beneficiaries not to see the workshop as a jamboree but as a serious programme that would help impact knowledge to achieve all the myriads and plethora responsibilities, Professor Fasubaa said that the collaboration between the state government and the MDG office which led the capacity building workshop was a display of the passion of the Fayemi administration for efficient and effective health care services at the primary health care level.
In her remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on MDG, Mrs. Bunmi Dipo-Salami noted that the Fayemi led administration took a holistic approach to achieving the MDG goals.
Describing the administration’s social security scheme for the elderly citizens as unprecedented, Mrs. Dipo-Salami emphasized that the series of free health missions carried out by the administration has considerably reduced mortality and morbidity rate as well as malaria, the spread of HIV and other life threatening conditions.
She assured that the MDGs office would continue to support all efforts that would lead to the objectives of the Millennium Development Goals adding that nine more ambulances would soon be available for distribution to five local government areas to boost quality health care delivery.
The Special Adviser advised participants at the workshop to take advantage of the opportunity presented by the organizers to update and refresh their knowledge, stressing that the knowledge gained much be judiciously utilized to the benefit of the society.
