Teachers on the payroll of Ekiti State government are to enjoy overseas training, Deputy Governor Prof Modupe Adelabu said yesterday. The training according to her, will not only enhance their knowledge, but keep them abreast of contemporary issues in the noble profession.
She dropped the hint during an unscheduled visit to the Ola-Oluwa Muslim Grammar School, Ado-Ekiti, where she lauded the teachers for
their commitment to duty.
Addressing the teachers, the deputy governor noted that the teachers’ dedication to duty has reflected in the improved performance of pupils in national examinations conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO) in the last two academic sessions.
She urged them to put in more efforts to surpass previous attainments even as she assured that their welfare will continue to be accorded priority by the administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi in appreciation of their contribution to achieve the fourth item on the government’s Eight-Point Agenda – Education and Human Capital Development.
Mrs. Adelabu also urged teachers to always update their knowledge and sharpen their skills in their chosen profession by attending national and international workshops and seminars.
She also used the opportunity to advise pupils to be of good conducts and desist from roaming the streets aimlessly during school hours so as not to fall victims to rapists and kidnappers who prowl the streets to violate young girls and abduct unsuspecting Nigerians.
Responding, the school Principal Mr Kayode Fasanmi hailed the Fayemi-led administration for the tremendous improvement it has brought to the education sector in the Land of Honour State.
He said the appointment of Prof Adelabu, who he described as an erudite scholar and an astute education administrator, as the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the deputy governor was the best thing that ever happened to the state.
Mr Fasanmi, who noted that teachers have never had it so good since the creation of the state, said the men of the chalk and board profession are very happy with the unfolding development in the education sector.
The principal assured that teachers will continue to work assiduously to improve on the present performance and to reciprocate the government gesture.
