The Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin has called for more participation of Civil Society Organizations (CSO) in the process of law making in the country.
Dr. Omirin who made the call in Ibadan while delivering an address at a 3-day workshop organized for the management staff of State Houses of Assembly in the south west geo-political zone of the country by the State Accountability and Voice Initiative (SAVI), called the attention of all stakeholders to the establishment of the public Participation Unit by the management of the Ekiti State House of Assembly which he described as worthy of emulation.
The Speaker charged participants at the workshop who are mainly civil servants working with legislative arm of government to be dedicated to their duties and committed to their responsibilities towards achieving the desired goals, noting that the success of the legislature seriously depend on the ability of the career officers in the sector to function efficiently.
Omirin stressed that the workshop tagged “Managing the Legislators for effective service delivery” was organized in recognition that the survival of any developmental democracy depends largely on the efficiency and effectiveness of public servants in the legislative arm that government organized series of training and retraining.
He appealed to the workers to justify the huge investment of government by exhibiting high level of competence, discipline and professionalism in order to realize the developmental agenda of government for the survival of democracy.
In his remarks, the Clerk of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr. Tola Esan said that the state assembly has immensely benefitted from collaborative efforts with various Non-governmental Organizations (NGO) on capacity building.
Mr. Esan however called for more efforts at strengthening the service for optimal performance.
