Ekiti Dep Gov Resolves Crisis Between PHCN And Ikere Community

Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Prof. Modupe Adelabu and the caretaker chairman of Ikere Local Government, Hon. Michael Adesoji Bamidele flanked by the Special Adviser to the deputy governor, Hon. Tale Oguntoyinbo and the Business Manager, PHCN in Ekiti State, Mr. Peters Nkenchor after the resolution of disagreement between PHCN and Ikere Community.

The Ekiti State Government has called on the people of Ikere-Ekiti, officials of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) and other stakeholders to tow the path of peace and amicably resolve issues that led to the youth protest in Ikere-Ekiti, last week.

The State Deputy Governor, Prof. Modupe Adelabu made the appeal at a peace meeting  organised to bring an end to the crisis that rocked the Ikere-Ekiti community last week as a result of disagreement between the people, officials of the PHCN and security officials.
Describing the State as the most peaceful state in the country, Prof, Adelabu said the State government would not tolerate anything or person that could tarnish the good reputation of the state nor allow anything to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere that pervades the state.

The Deputy Governor who urged the Chiefs and parents to advise and caution their subjects and wards respectively called for dialogue in resolving issues rather than violent protest. She also charged the youths, Okada riders, road transport workers as well as other stakeholders not to allow anybody to use them to cause trouble.
While urging the parties to always cooperate and be at peace with security officials who are working basically to provide security for their lives and property, she reiterated government’s zero tolerance to violence.

The Deputy Governor stressed the need for the organization to enlighten their customers on the billing system and also make pre-paid billing meters available as it will resolve most of the issues that generate controversies between the PHCN and its customers.
She also said a committee will be set up to resolve other issues raised by the PHCN and other parties concern so that electricity could be restored to the town soonest.

Responding, the PHCN, Ado-Ekiti Business Manager, Mr. Peters Nkenchor who took time to make some explanations on the billing system and several other challenges confronting the body and its officials, said the Federal Government and other stakeholders in the power sector are working hard to address the myriads of challenges.
He thanked the state government for the peace meeting and promised to restore electricity supply to Ikere-Ekiti and its environ as soon as possible.
