More communities on Thursday continued to praise Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, for initiating the Social Security Benefit Scheme for  elderly citizens in the state, saying that the scheme has put a check on untimely death of elderly citizens in the communities.

Some of the community leaders while presenting their requests for input in the proposed 2014 budget had highlighted the numbers of beneficiaries of the scheme in their respective communities, describing the programme as an elixir for long life for Ekiti citizens.

The Governor had toured communities in Ekiti West Local Government Area, where he held town hall meetings in Aramoko, Erio, Ido-Ile, Okemesi, Erijinyan, Ikogosi, and commissioned completed projects.
Presenting his address, the Olojudo of Ido Ile Ekiti, Oba Aderemi Obaleye said Ekiti people should be proud of Governor Fayemi for the transformation of  the State through various initiatives especially the Social Security Scheme and the community empowerment programme ,which according to the monarch, had impacted positively on the communities and the entire citizenry. He added that the monthly stipends of N5,000 to the elderly citizens has also boosted local economy in the state.

The monarch who stated that no community in the State has not benefited at least four projects from Fayemi’s administration, disclosed that Ido Ile has benefitted up to eight different projects from the present administration after years of neglect from previous administrations.

Oba Obaleye who warned politicians against heating up the polity unnecessary ahead of 2014 governorship  election in Ekiti, said the state is getting the real taste of good governance under the  Fayemi administration, adding that the state would fare better if he is elected for another term.

He reminded the people of how the State in less than 17 years had produced 10 governors because many of the politicians  do not have the progress of the State at heart but are only propelled by  inordinate ambitions.

The monarch whose community hosts the popular Ayo Babalola prayer mountain prayed for the success of the Fayemi-led administration and predicted his re-election.

At Ikogosi, president of Ikogosi Progressive Union, Mr Esho Johnson who read the community’s requests commended the Governor for the “regular payment of allowance to all aged and widows in the community”; saying that the elderly citizens are eternally grateful to the present administration for providing the succour.

“As far as this community is concerned, Kayode Fayemi is performing wonders in Ekiti  State therefore the need for everyone to encourage and give him adequate support to continue doing his good works more so that the import of good governance is detected and ferried from special and life touching impacts on the life and times of the citizens”, he stated.

At Erijiyan the country home of the interim State chairman of the All Progressive Congress, (APC), Chief Jide Awe, Fayemi was received by a mammoth crowd led by Awe, and the Special Adviser on Special Projects, Mr Bayo Kelekun as well as other indigenes of the community.

The community while tabling  their requests before  the Governor  also stressed that their elderly citizens have remained agile owing to the N5000 monthly stipend and free health programme for the elderly and other vulnerable sectors of the society.

The spokesperson stressed that  119 aged citizens in the community are currently benefiting from the scheme which now has a database of 25,000 beneficiaries.

Responding, Governor Fayemi stressed that the gesture of his administration is not a favour but a duty that his administration owes Ekiti people and assures that the tempo would be maintained till the vision of transforming  the State becomes a reality.

He assured that many of the requests would be considered for the proposed budget while some requests were immediately turned down because government might not have the capability to address them in the immediate time.
