Commissioner Warns Traders Against Use Of Substandard “Congo”

Ekiti State Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Otunba Reim Bodunrin has warned traders in the state against the use of substandard measure to sell grains.

Otunba Bodunrin who gave the warning in Ado Ekiti, noted that most of the old measure popularly referred to as “Congo” had been tampered with to short-change unsuspecting consumers.

The Commissioner who spoke through the Director of Commerce in the Ministry, Mr. Julius Adebiyi explained that the Fayemi led administration has however introduced a standard measure to ensure transparency, economic development, consumer satisfaction and increase in purchasing power of the people.

He lamented that some of the traders have persisted in the use of substandard measure in spite of government’s efforts at ensuring fair play in daily transactions in markets.

Bodunrin stressed the need for traders to acquire the measure branded with the Ekiti State logo for easy identification, emphasising that consumers should also insist on the standard measure with logo for all transactions to ensure they got their money worth.

Charging all stakeholders to support government’s efforts at instilling sanity in the socio-economic life of the people, the Commissioner said officials of the Ministry would monitor activities of traders to ensure strict compliance with the use of the standard measure.
