The Ekiti State Government has congratulated Miss Adeolu Oluwadamilola Ooreofe on her outstanding achievement in emerging as the winner of the 2026 African Spelling Bee (Junior Category) held in Harare, Zimbabwe, as well as Miss Oreoluwa Alayande, winner of the 2025 MTN mPulse Spelling Bee.
In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, the State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, described the achievements as a remarkable testament to Ekiti State’s long-standing reputation as a centre of academic excellence and intellectual distinction.
Olatunbosun noted that Miss Ooreofe’s victory, attained after competing against participants from over 20 African countries, reflects not only her exceptional brilliance, discipline, and resilience, but also the impact of the State Government’s sustained investments in the education sector.
He highlighted her steady rise through the ranks, from excelling at the Ekiti State qualifiers to securing second place at the national level in Port Harcourt, and ultimately emerging as the continental champion, as a clear demonstration of consistency, hard work, and determination.
According to him, “Miss Ooreofe and Miss Alayande, who incidentally attend the same school, St. Lawrence Metropolitan College, Ado Ekiti, have brought immense pride and honour to Ekiti State and Nigeria at large. Their achievements further reinforce Ekiti’s status as a leading hub for educational advancement in Nigeria and underscore the immense potential of our young people when provided with the right support, guidance, and enabling environment.”
Olatunbosun also commended the management and staff of St. Lawrence Metropolitan College, Ado Ekiti, for their unwavering commitment to academic excellence, as well as the parents and guardians of the young champions for their invaluable support and dedication.
He further noted that Miss Ooreofe’s success, which earned her a $5,000 educational scholarship and the opportunity to represent Africa at the forthcoming World Spelling Bee in China, serves as a strong source of inspiration to students across the State and beyond.
While celebrating these milestones, the Commissioner reiterated the Ekiti State Government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the education sector through sustained investment in infrastructure, teacher development, digital learning, and student-focused initiatives aimed at nurturing future global leaders.
He added that the Government will continue to provide an enabling environment for academic excellence to thrive, ensuring that more young talents are discovered, nurtured, and supported to compete favourably on national and international stages.
Olatunbosun urged students across the State to draw inspiration from these achievements and remain committed to diligence, discipline, and excellence in their academic pursuits.
He also wished Miss Ooreofe continued success as she prepares to represent Africa on the global stage.
