The Ekiti State Government has welcomed the latest report by BudgIT ranking Ekiti among the top-performing states in fiscal transparency in Nigeria for the fourth quarter of 2025.
The report, titled States Fiscal Transparency League (SFTL) Q4 2025, placed Ekiti State among nine states that achieved the highest score of 39 points, the maximum obtainable under the indicators assessed.
According to the report, Ekiti maintained the top position throughout the entire 2025 fiscal year, a performance attributed to the State’s institutionalized transparency systems and consistent disclosure of fiscal information.
The State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, described the ranking as a clear affirmation of the State Government’s unwavering commitment to open governance, fiscal responsibility, and accountable management of public resources.
According to him, the recognition reflects deliberate reforms implemented by the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to ensure that financial processes and government spending remain transparent, accessible, and subject to public scrutiny.
“The BudgIT report is a strong endorsement of Ekiti State’s consistent commitment to transparency and accountability in public financial management. Our government has deliberately built systems that ensure fiscal information is regularly published and easily accessible to citizens, investors, development partners, and oversight institutions,” the Commissioner said.
Rt. Hon. Olatunbosun added that “Ekiti’s sustained top ranking throughout 2025 demonstrates that the State has moved beyond episodic compliance to institutionalized transparency practices embedded within its governance structure”.
He explained that the State Government has continued to ensure the timely publication of quarterly budget implementation reports, maintain functional fiscal data repositories, and operate accessible procurement platforms, in line with global best practices in public financial management.
Olatunbosun added that the State Government remains committed to strengthening transparency mechanisms across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in order to deepen accountability and improve service delivery to the people.
“This achievement will not make us complacent. Rather, it will motivate us to sustain and further strengthen the systems that guarantee prudent management of public funds and transparency in government operations,” he assured.
Rt. Hon. Olatunbosun also commended BudgIT and other civic organisations for their continued efforts in promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance across Nigeria.
He reassured residents that Governor Biodun Oyebanji administration will continue to uphold the highest standards of fiscal openness, ensuring that public resources are managed responsibly and deployed effectively for the development and welfare of the people of the State.
Signed
Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun
Honourable Commissioner for Information
