Ekiti APC Embraces Digital Membership Drive To Strengthen Youth Participation And Transparency

January 8, 2026

Eligible Nigerians who have attained the age of 18 have been urged to take advantage of the ongoing Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), as voter registration remains the bedrock of credible elections.

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development who is also the Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) e-registration exercise, Mr. Gold Adesola Adedayo and the APC State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Segun Dipe gave the advice while featuring on a simulcast tagged “Ekiti Loni/Ekiti Today”.

“With the gubernatorial election in the State and the 2027 general election fast approaching, citizens who are eligible but yet to register were encouraged to act now. Without voter registration, you are completely excluded from the democratic process. Those who have turned 18 must register, because the voters’ register is the foundation of free, fair and credible elections,” the speakers emphasized, stressing that registering under the age of 18 is also illegal and undermines electoral integrity.

They also reaffirmed the commitment of the State chapter of APC to transparency, accountability and youth inclusion through its ongoing electronic membership registration exercise.

Speaking on the programme, Mr. Adesola described the e-registration initiative as a major step in modernizing party administration.

“What we are doing is a deliberate transition from analogue to digital processes. This is in line with national standards and global best practices. We want a system that guarantees accountability, accurate data capture and proper planning for the future of the party,” he said.

He explained that the exercise is not limited to ward-level activities, noting that both old and new members must participate.

“Existing members are expected to revalidate their membership, while new members should register at their respective ward centres. Nobody is exempted; this process is for everyone,” Mr. Adesola added.

Also speaking, the APC Publicity Secretary, Mr. Segun Dipe, said the decision to adopt e-registration was informed by challenges encountered in previous registration exercises.

“In the past, we recorded millions of registrations on paper, but when it was time to reconcile the figures, only a fraction could be accounted for. That experience showed us that analogue registration was no longer sustainable,” he said.

According to him, the digital platform has addressed those gaps, stressing that “with this system, there is transparency, no duplication and no guesswork. Every member that registers is properly captured and documented”.

The APC leadership stressed that eligibility remains central to the exercise. Prospective members must be registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and possess a valid Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) and Voter Identification Number (VIN). The registration platform is also integrated with the National Identification Number (NIN) system.

“Once your NIN is entered, the system automatically verifies your identity and confirms citizenship. It makes impersonation and multiple registrations practically impossible,” Mr. Dipe explained.

Mr. Adesola disclosed that Governor Biodun Oyebanji has provided strong institutional and logistical backing for the exercise.

“The governor has given us full support to ensure this registration is seamless. His performance in office is also encouraging more Ekiti people to identify with the party, which is why we are seeing thousands of new registrations within days,” he said.

On youth inclusion, the Commissioner noted that young people remain a key focus of the party.

“Youths make up a large percentage of our population, and we are intentional about bringing them into the political space. This e-registration is part of a broader digital agenda to empower young people, build political awareness and groom responsible future leaders,” he said.

Explaining the structure of the registration process, Mr. Adesola said it operates across four tiers which he highlighted as state, senatorial district, local government and ward levels, with trained agents deployed in all 177 wards of the state.

“Even party leaders must register through their wards. It reinforces the simple truth that all politics is local,” he noted.

Mr. Dipe added that the digital system would also enhance internal security and discipline within the party.

“As we move closer to the political season, this database will help us identify genuine members, prevent infiltration and deal appropriately with anti-party activities,” he said, adding that the use of NIN has strengthened internal controls.

Both speakers assured members that the registration process is simple, seamless and continuous.

“The first phase will close at the end of the month, but registration remains open, especially for new members and youths who just attained voting age. Members can also request to verify their details, because transparency builds trust,” Mr. Dipe said.

They concluded that the APC’s digital membership drive positions the party as forward-looking and responsive.

“With transparent records, active youth participation and clear processes, we are strengthening internal democracy and preparing the party for the future,” they said.
