Ekiti State Government has taken delivery of 2000 waste wheelie bins as part of steps towards ensuring effective waste collection, evacuation and disposal across the State.

Speaking with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, while inspecting the newly delivered bins in Ado-Ekiti, the Director General of the Ekiti State Waste Management Authority, Mr Olasunkanmi Onipede said the bins would enhance house to house waste collection and further boost waste management operations in the state.

Mr Onipede who lauded the State Government’s efforts at making the state capital, Ado Ekiti and other urban centres in the State clean, said the State Waste Management Authority has extended its activities to other local government areas in the state.

Mr Onipede said the bins would be sold to residents at subsidízed rates adding that the Private Sector Operators saddled with the responsibility of collecting refuse from households, corporate organizations and public institutions in the State had increased from two to 10.

He urged residents to key into state government initiatives geared towards discouraging indiscriminate dumping of waste adding that the procurement of the wheelie bins is also expected to significantly curb indiscriminate dumping of waste in undesignated public and private spaces, drainages and canals and rid the State of waste that is mainly responsible for environmental pollution as well as perennial flooding in some urban centres in the State
